Rajinikanth (Shivaji Rao Gaekwad :12 December 1950) is an Indian actor, media personality, and cultural icon. Rajinikanth has acted across various film industries such as Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and English.He began acting in plays while working in the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor.After establishing himself as a lead actor in a number of commercially successful films, he began to be referred to as a "Superstar" and has since continued to hold a matinee idol status in the popular culture of Tamil Nadu.Rajinikanth , often affectionately called Rajini, has claimed that he learned acting by watching Kamal Haasan movies.Rajinikanth has won six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards -four Best Actor Awards and two Special Awards for Best Actor and a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.In addition to acting, he has also worked as a Producer and Screenwriter.Apart from his fil career, he is also a Philanthropist , spiritualist, and serves as an influence in Dravidian politics.After earning   26 crore for his role in Sivaji, he became the highest paid actor in Asia after jackie Chan .It is very difficult to choose ten of his finest films but nevertheless. 1.Thalapathi (1991)


 Thalapathi is a Indian Tamil film written and directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by G.Venkateswaran under the banner of G.V.Films.It is released in November 5, 1991 and starring Rajinikanth,Mammootty, Arvind Swamy, Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Srividya,Bhanupriya, Shobana,Geetha.The theme is loosely based on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana of hindi epic , Mahabharata.The score and soundtrack were composed by Ilaiyaraaja.The film was one among the deepavali releases of 1991.The film, being set in a contemporary milieu at the time of its release, emerged as a critical and commercial success during its theatrical run.


2.Thillu Mullu (1981)


Thillu Mullu (English :Hodgepodge) is a Tamil comedy film directed by K.Balachandar.The film is released in 1May, 1981 starring Rajinikanth, Madhavi, Thengai Srinivasan, Nagesh, Sowkar Janaki, Poornam Vishwanathan.The film was a remake of 1979 Hindi comedy film Golmaal directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. This movie was produced by Kalakendra Movies.The film is about Chandran who is advised by his family friend to attend the job at a company of his friend Sriramachandramoorty  Chandran pretends to be a cultured, well-mannered and patriotic person which impressesSriramacha-ndramoorthy.This movie receives positive reviews from critics,who particularly praised Rajinikanth performance, as he was known for doing mainly action films up untill that point in his career.

3.16 Vayathinile (1977)


16 Vayathinile (English:At the Age of Sixteen) is a Tamil feature film directed by Bharathiraja.It is released in 15 September, 1977 starring Kamal Hassan , Sridevi, Rajinikanth.The film also marks the debut of the famous South Indian Comedian Goundamani.The film focused on rural Tamil Nadu and was the first Tamil film to be shot completely outdoors.It began the trend of outdoor shooting in Tamil film industry.This film was Bharathiraja's directorial debut, it met with a stong critical reception upon release, was a blockbuster and completed a 175-day run at the box-office.The film won four State Awards and one each in the South Filmfare Awards and National Film Awards ceremonies.

4.Mullum Malarum (1978)


Mullum Malarum (English :Thorn and Flower) is a Indian Tamil drama film directed by J.Mahendran and produced by Venu Chettiar.It is released in 15 August , 1978 starring Rajinikanth, Sarath babu, Fatafat Jayalaxmi, Shoba.It tells the story of Kali, a winch operator who conflicts with his superior Kumaran  at a power plant, which eventually leads to the loss of his arm and job.It received positive reviews from the critic and audiences and become a success.The film was a major breakthrough for Rajinikanth, whose performance as Kali received unanimous praise and is widely considered to be the best performance of his career.The film won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil film.

5.Baashha (1995)


Baashha is a Indian Tamil drama film directed by Suresh krissna and produced by R.M.Veerappan.It is released in 15 January 1995 starring Rajinikanth, Nagma, Raghuvaran.Rajinikanth won Filmfans Association Award andCinema Express Award for the Best Actor for his performance in the film.This film was later remade in Kannada as Kotigobba starring Vishnuvardhan and Priyanka Upendra in the lead roles.Manikkam meets Priya , a rich girl travels frequency in his auto. She develops a respect and feelings for him due to his nobility. The flashback shows that Manikkam was actually Once a Don named Manik Baashha in Bombay.

6.Padayappa (1999)


Padayappa is a Indian Tamil drama film written and directed by K.S.Ravikumar.it is released in 10 April 1999 starring Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishan , Soundarya.The plot revolves around Padayappa, a mechanical engineer whose father gives up his property to his foster brother and then dies of shock soon after.neelambari initially loves Padayappa, but plans to humilliate him after his family humilliates her father. The rest of the plot deals with Padayappa overcoming all the obstacles placed by Neelambari.  This was the first Tamil film to be released worldwide with  210 prints and 700,000 audio cassettes, and became a commercially successful venture.The film won five Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.The dubbed version was also commercially successful, and had a theatrical run of 50 days at 49 theatres.

7.Muthu (1995)


Muthu is a Indian Tamil musical drama film directed by K.S.Ravikumar.It is released in October 23, 1995 starring Rajinikanth, Meena, Sarath Babu.It is an official remake of the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam film Thenmavin Kombath (1994).It was the first Indian film to have a major success in Japan and earned Rajinikanth, a huge fan following in Japan.A Kind-hearted Zamindar lived with his sister-in-law cousin Rajasekhar, helping people incessantly.His sister-in-law has a son, to whom the zamindar  bequeaths a major portion of his property. The film was a block buster and completed a 175 day run at the box office.

8.Annamalai (1992)


Annamalai is a Tamil film directed by Suresh Krishna and produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy.It is released in 26 June 1992 starring Rajinikanth, Kushboo, Sarath Babu, Radha Ravi, Manorama, Janagaraj, Nizhalgal Ravi.It is a remake of Krishnam Raju's movie Prana Snehitulu, which was a remake of Rakesh Roshan's Hindi movie Khudgarz, which was in turn based on Jeffrey Archer's novel Kane and Abel.Annamalai and Ashok have been best friends since childhood.Annamalai is a milkman while Ashok is the only son of a rich businessman.When Ashok falls in love with Geetha,a poor girl, his father is naturally against thew wedding. Annamalai holds the wedding and earns his ire. Meanwhile, Annamalai falls for Subu, whom he subsequently marries.

9.Billa (1980)


Billa is Indian Tamil action-thriller film produced by Suresh Balaje and directed by R.Krishnamurthy
It is released in 26 January 1980 starring rajinikanth, K.Balaji, Sripriya.It is extensively based on the Hindi film Don (1978), with changes made in the script to suit the Tamil audience.The film revolves around Billa, a feared Mafia don in Madras,who is fatally wounded during an encounter with the police.Wanting to uncover Billa's accomplices, the police commissioner Alexander trains a lookalike village bumpkin Rajappa to pose as Billa and infiltrate the gang.The rest of the film deals with how Rajappa learns more about Billa's gang,and tries to get all of them arrested.

10.Sivaji (2007)


Sivaji is a Indian action film directed  by S,Shankar and produced by AVM Productions.It is released in 15 June 2007 starring Rajinikanth, Shriya Saran, Vivek and Suman.The film revolves around a well-established Software Systems architect, Sivaji, who returns home to India after finishing work in the United States.On his return, he dreams of giving back to society with free medical treatment and education.However his plans face a roadblock in the form of the  inflential businessman, Adiseshan.When corruption also rises, Sivaji is left with no option but to fight the system in his own way.
